ACretan Life in Lo-Mo

Dear Friends and Family,

In the last couple of days our lives have changed very little. We have confined ourselves pretty much to the village of Sisi (discovered another spelling: Seisi). In fact, the gas gage of our little Citroen is still on full - I actually think that in the 5 full days we have been here, I have walked (20+) further than we have driven. We are planning a road trip out to the far northwest of the island. Last time here, we did the southwest of the island, so this will be a new adventure.

Days have consisted of the morning constitutional, some relaxing with a book (alright, Kindle) by the pool and then a trip into Sisi for a beer and a gander at the local village life. The other day we caught the glass bottom boat arriving into the little bay and dropping a few more tourists into town

Sisi has actually been quite busy. The man-made beach across the harbor has been quite full,

Here you see the harbor as you look at it from the seawall. Thursday night we decided to have dinner in, so, instead of a later evening out, we went down for sunset at the harbor. We also chose to sit in a slightly different location and enjoyed the view of the far end of the seawall and discovered some clever person had erected some standing stones, that from our distance appeared as small wild life (penguins, meercats, prairie dogs, etc.)

Also, for added pleasure, it was a lovely sunset

Friday evening we were back at what is becoming our favorite restaurant, Liofito's. The garden setting is so peaceful, even when the wind is buffeting us down at the harbor, all is still there. At our request, as we remembered them from a visit two year.s ago, Yorgo's wife made the most delicious tomato fritters. They seem to literally melt in your mouth. The special dish of the day was "rooster"! I, of course had to order it

It was very good, but my one complaint was that it "tasted like chicken!"

For a change, yesterday, instead of my regular jaunt into town, I headed out into the hills, slight east of Sisi. I traveled through olive groves sitting in the morning shadows of dramatic hills

Wandered past some impressive Greek homes

Through the little "traditional village" of Epano Sisi (it means "higher" Sisi) to a higher elevation looking down to the sea

This morning, Saturday AM in Crete, I am hoping to make it up a hill that sits across the road from our apartment. It has a lovely little church at the top and I am told the view from there is spectacular. I hope to share it with you next time.
