28th Anniversary Complete!

One and all,

As I mentioned yesterday, it was our 28th anniversary yesterday. It was a lovely day and we began it at breakfast at Daquerie Dick's, a lovely restaurant that sits just off the beach. Polley and I had a couple of very traditional Mexican breakfasts with things like chorizo, and peppers and black beans, with a little guacamole on the side. Also a couple of Mimosas - must start any celebration with some champagne! Waiter was able to capture the moment digitally

Then, as is the custom on such significant days, we took the Mexican bus to Walmart! It was an adventure that we had yet to fulfill this year, so off we went, feeling a bit out of place as we had no chickens, dogs or goats to accompany us. But we jumped aboard for the 15-20 minute ride. We struck up a conversation with a very nice young Mexican man who was eager to recall his English. He had lived in Minnesota for a number of years and still fondly remembered his trip to Minneapolis to a Twins baseball game. He still treasured the ticket and the souvenir program from that game. He spoke Spanish, English and German and was getting ready to commence on the next "Language of the World" -- Chinese. Anyway, we jumped off at Walmart and among the crowds for half an hour or so, getting those few things that only seem available there. Then headed back, thoroughly done in by the experience. We stayed in the apartment and read and napped until about 6:30 pm, when we started part two (3?) of our anniversary. We wandered down to a very nice restaurant, Le Bistro, right on the Rio Cuale for a "pre-Funk" -- a glass of wine. You can see Polley in her sparkly outfit

Then it was on to dinner at our favorite restaurant, Vitea. It sits right on the Malécon and the food is really good and not too terribly expensive. We had a terrific meal. Polley had a creamy gazpacho and then a wonderful eggplant ravioli with watercress and some Parmesan cheese. Since I got to finish it, I can attest to its flavor. I had a small Greek salad to start and then a shrimp, mussel, octopus, clam, fish canzuela, sort of like a cioppino or a boullabaise. Again, very tasty. Along with that, two huge margaritas (we never did get to wine with dinner) and coffee. Very nice and all for about $48-50. Strength of the dollar has made Mexico even a bit more afforbable. Did get the waiter to snap a photo of the occasion

Then, we strolled home on a windless winter evening, headed off into year 29.
