El Cumpleaños de Senora Grieg

Dear blogees,

Just a brief report on our day yesterday. As I mentioned, it was January Greig's birthday (cumpleaños) and we were invited to celebrate it with she and her husband, our landlord, Fred. As I said yesterday, finding a birthday card and a bag or some wrapping in town seemed to be totally out of the question. So Polley and I got on the bus and headed for that greatest of capitalist saviors, Walmart!

The bus ride out, as always was exciting, as the driver send pedestrians sprawling and car cowering. Somehow the ride out there is always bumpier and scarier than the return. Now sure quite why that is. Anyway, we picked up a few things at Walmark, including a card and bag for the funky sunglasses. We got back about noon and had a glass of wine at our place at the bottom of the hill with our waiter José. Headed home for a very light lunch as we were scheduled to head to a town to the north called Bucerias for lunch, somewhere between 3 and 4. We took a small nap and mostly read, awaiting the knock on the door. About 4, Fred collected us and we drove for about 40 minutes to Bucerias. I thought we were headed to a favorite spot, but indeed, when we got into the bustling little pueblo, we parked the car and just scoped places out. Ironically, we ate at the place Polley and I have eaten at twice before. Now we have only eaten in Bucerias 4 times and 3 times at the same place. It is a lovely setting and we sat for more than two hours, to the point that the sun was beginning to set on Banderas Bay

We had a lunch of huge magaritas, some of the very best guacamole we have had here and the speciality of the house, which was a sort of baked potato stuffed with shrimp and Parmesan cheese. It was really very good, but I think with a little fooling, we might even improve it.

We had a very nice time. January enjoyed her sunglasses and I was able to capture this photo of Fred, January and Polley

We had a lovely drive home. Polley and I, always keyed up after these things, adjourned to Candela for a glass of their house wine (dos vasos de vino tinto del casa) and then home for the night. A full, not too strenuous day, but we hit the bed hard and were out in minutes.
