A Couple of Lazy Days

One and all,

First, let me respond to those who wrote after my last blog, which featured various angles of our apartment. As I discovered, the standout feature, apparently, were the two cans of OFF that shown brightly in their easily identifiable orange cans. It made the place appear as a haven for the little pests. The truth is that I don't use the OFF for the apartment, but in anticipation of some places we sit, near the water. They are not really bad, but can be annoying and they seem to especially like me. So, a little protection.

The weekend was very laid-back. After a couple of days, that seemed busy what with an early morning breakfast buffet with friends and running into some other acquaintances later, is felt absolutely luxurious to return to our normal routine. Saturday was absolutely made for the beach.

We ventured down to Langosta and just sat and soaked up the sun. It was a day when it was apparent that the sardines were running close to shore. Both the fishermen and the birds knew it.

They were flocking everywhere

The fishermen catch the small fish with nets and while they are disentangling the fish, they occassionally toss one in the air, which the birds snatch while in flight. Great entertainment.

That night we caught the sunset and the fish were still running and the birds were still in pursuit

As the light softened, the birds sihouetted agains the sky was quite a sight.

Also, as the light began to fade, I caught a photo of one of the locals who wanderes the Malécon: the saddest, most remote clown you will ever see.

His sister apparently makes his costumes and he wanders about, looking to give little balloon animals to children, for a tip, but as we observe him always seem reticent to do so. A tough way to make a living.

Sunday was a bit overcast, but the beach called again and, actually by the time we got to the beach, the sky was clear. It was more of the same, in terms of birds seeking the fish

In fact, this guy was quite bold and came right up on the beach, figuritively knocking on the door of the fishermen's abode, not too proud to beg

Of course, not all the fish were sardines. Where there are little fish, there are bound to be big fish, as this fellow proved with his catch

As it was football Sunday, our beach time was a bit limited, but after watching Denver finish off New England, we took a break and went down to Roberto's for a glass of wine and another sunset

As the light faded in the west, we took one last look toward the sea and the fading sun

and made our way slowly up the hill, as we still needed to see the Seahawks dismniss the 49ers. Who would have believed it. Next up in the two weeks, the Super Bowl, for me, all in Spanish! A lovely weekend, as we hope your was as well.
