Two Weeks and Counting

Dear Friends and Family,

As I write this this morning, with Kira Cat sitting on my lap, I want to remind you that I will only be bugging you for 14 more days through this electronic medium. Soon, I will bug you in person!

While time now seems to be moving very quickly in terms of our returning to Portland, we are doing our best to make the actual, individual days slow to a crawl. We are getting some of our best weather so far this week. Yesterday was another of those clear, deep blue sky days with the sun seeming to grow increasingly intense.

We did very little vary our routine. We did decide, based on the amount of food in the fridge, that it would be a day to eat in at both lunch and dinner. So, we mostly moved from one watering hole to another, progressing from beer, to margaritas, to wine, returning to beer and finishing off with tequila. That pretty much sums up Monday, March 18th!

In between pours, I did get a fetching picture of Lucy Cat, who has become the "Cat of a Thousand Poses."

She is a very adorable cat except when she gets into her head to bite, which is a game she insists on playing

I sort of joke about the varieties of alcohol we ingested, but we did wander to the beach for some sun (and some beer). We stopped at La Fuente to see José and the gang (and margaritas). Then up the hill for lunch and siesta. We also got some quality reading time in which becomes less frequent when we go to the beach as we are always torn between reading and watching people. People, somehow, always seem to win out.

We got to the Malécon for sunset. Like the night before, it was clear and brilliant. The clear days, however, seem to rob the sunset of some of its drama. Not theatrical light show, just a great orange ball dropping into the sea. There was a moment, last night, where, because of some atmospheric oddities, that the ball became a bit distorted and looked to be more of a pumpkin that a ball! Interesting?

With the sun down, we departed Roberto's and stopped to see our friends at El Patio. As the lovely, quite pregnant Paolo said, "Es muy bonita noche." And she was right, it was a nearly perfect night, with the half moon, venus and other stars shining through the still and nearly crystal clear evening.

As we got ready to go up the hill the rest of the way, I did get Paola to pose for us. Not a great photo, but you can see little Alejandro is on the way. Paola is from Argentina as is the bartender who was nice enough to get the three of us together.

Sort of zombie eyes, but you get the idea. El Patio has such a lovely ambience and that means there is almost no light. I will see if we can work on some better photos of the place in the quickly diminishing future.

From there, it was up the hill for a light supper and some tequila, largely for medicinal purposes as this cold continues to hang on. A good night's rest will doubtless be of value. Best to all and a very goodnight!
