Sitting, Supping and Sunsets

One and all,

Super Bowl Sunday and here I sit watching the sun rise on our little abode. We do plan to stay in tonight for the game and enjoy a Mexican version of popcorn. I will report on that experiment in the future. Also, I will be watching the game in Spanish, as our place, while it does have cable, Fox has a Spanish language sports station down here and that will be my source for the game. I am coming to understand "incompleto," and "chapucear." I am not sure if a "sack" is "bolsa" like the bag or not, but will be paying close attention later today.

Friday, after an early lunch and a brief siesta, we took a cab up to El Rio BBQ. I talked of this last year. It is a river side cafe about 3 miles up river, run by a guy from Portland, Kurt Sinner. It is a nice change of pace from the pace of downtown PV. Fridays, for two hours, there is a duet, Bobby and Gilberto,

who play the songs our our highschoo and college era. It is a very popular weekly event where the retired folks can relive the sockhops of earlier years

Kurt has created a kind of beach in the jungle, complete with huge portions BBQ'd ribs. It is like the dinners Fred and Barney used to feature!

We came back from El Rio and took the old, clunky city bus all the way down to the beach to catch sunset. It did not disappoint

More of what I call "Biblical" light or "Ben Hur" light. It was quite dramatic

No Photo Shop here. Who needs it when you have such natural light. While I am on the subject of sunsets, Judith Montgomery sent us some pictures of actual Oregon sunsets from the last few days. Quite impressive. Of course, just seeing the sun in Oregon at this time of year is a pretty big deal

However, once the sun went down, the breeze did pick up. Later evenings and especially early mornings have been quite cool. As we reach February, you would think it would be getting warmer, but this last week that has not been the case.

Saturday, we returned to our normal routine and made our way to the beach. We did pass, along the way, a Mexican birthday party,

just set out right on the street, complete with the man on the second floor whose job it was to hoist the "piƱata" up and down as the kids batted at it. They seemed to be having every bit as much fun as it they had been at "Chucky Cheese"!

While we enjoyed lunch in on Saturday, we did make our way back down to the beach for sunset. It, again, was quite spectacular

As you can see, there were a good number of clouds and I even hinted that it might rain (it never did), but the effects of the sun and clouds were dramatic

Following sunset, we went a block up from the beach to a tiny restaurant that was featuring mussels. They were delicious and came with a plentiful serving of frites as well. The chef/owner is a Frenchman and we nearly thought we were back in Paris or Toulouse as we gorged ourselves. A simple, but very satisfying meal and the perfect end of a couple of simple and very satisfying days.
